PLACES VISITED

We will continue our guided tour through the archeological centers located around the city of Cusco; such as Saqsaywaman, its Quechua name means "satisfied hawk" and it was built with huge blocks of stone. In the time of the Incas it was called the "sun house" and it was a religious center of great importance in the local tradition. Another site we will visit is Q’enqo, Quechua word that means "Labyrinth or Zigzag" coined by the Spaniards for its labyrinthine underground galleries and for the small channels carved in zigzag. We will continue our tour visiting Puka Pukara, called the “red fortress”, it is built with stones with that color tone and finally we will arrive at Tambomachay which was an Inca temple dedicated to worship the water. PLACES VISITED

This tour starts at 8:30 AM, we will pick you up from the hotel in Cusco 15 to 20 minutes before the tour take off, we will start visiting the Archaeological Site of Pisac located 45 minutes from Cusco. Pisac will give you an idea of the advanced knowledge that the Incas achieved in architecture. Composed of platforms, domestic structures, ceremonials and aqueducts that provided water for the agro-business operation. Another good reason to visit Pisac is its craft market, where you can find some unique and authentic souvenirs.

At noon, we will go to the town of Urubamba where we will enjoy the buffet lunch that will allow you to enjoy the delicious Peruvian cuisine. Urubamba was one of the main agricultural centers of the Empire of the Incas. Currently, the villagers harvest the best corn in the world, and in the rainy season, the Valley’s own fruits are abundant, such as peaches, capulí, strawberries of the highest quality, among others.

Later in the afternoon, we will visit the Ollantaytambo Fortress that was built to be a strategic military, agricultural and religious center to administer and control the Sacred Valley of the Incas; historians figured this out due to the constructions, which presumably were used as agricultural deposits and for military uses like walls and watchtowers. This archaeological site comprises a series of overlapping terraces, showing the impressive and large stone blocks finely carved and located on the upper terrace.

On the way back to Cusco, we will make a stop and visit the town of Chinchero to visit the Church of Our Lady of Monserrat built in 1607. On the Tupac Yupanqui palace, we will also see “Inca Andenes” and its market of artisans.

The tour of the Sacred Valley ends in Cusco around 19:00 hours. Upon our arrival in Cusco, we will leave you at your hotel.
